Patch Magtanong has been studying Japanese to prep for Miss International campaign

Lawyer, model, and beauty queen Patricia Magtanong wants to be remembered as the person who brings home the seventh Miss International crown to the Philippines following Kylie Verzosa's last victory for the country back in 2016.

"Every time I feel tired or I'm ready to cut corners, I think to myself that I'm not doing this just for myself. I'm doing this for my country. I'm doing this for the hundred million Filipinos who love pageantry so I owe it to them. I owe it to you guys to do what I possibly can to win that crown," said Patricia, or Patch as she's affectionately called, during her send-off on Wednesday at the Novotel in Quezon City.

Patch is set to compete in Tokyo, Japan for the 59th Miss International pageant, where she will vie for the title against beauties from 90 other countries.

Present at the event were her sister queens: Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados, Miss Supranational Philippines Resham Saeed, Miss Intercontinental Philippines Emma Tiglao, Binibining Pilipinas 1sr runner-up Maria Abesamis and Binbining Pilipinas 2nd runner-up Samantha Bernardo.

All of them wished Patch good luck and expressed their utmost confidence in their sister.

"You passed the board exam and got the Miss International title, that's something. Patch Magtanong is something," Gazini said.

"[Patch] is someone who prepares not only for the best but also for the worst and this international stage is perfect for you because you can take yourself to new lengths," added Resham.

Patch's parents were also in attendance. Her mom revealed that Patch has not only been preparing for her walk, her answers, and her looks, but has also studied the Japanese language to be fully ready.

Patch revealed that her national costume has been inspired by Mindanao. Aside from this, she said that part of her preparation is talking and brainstorming with designers since wardrobe is a key element in the competition.

Patch is scheduled to fly to Tokyo this coming October 25, Friday. —JST, GMA News
