Filipino comics artist Jun Lofamia passes away at 81

Pinoy comics artist Jun Quintana Lofamia passed away on December 3, his daughter Mylene Esteban confirmed on Facebook.

According to his friend Erni Labao, the artist died due to a heart attack

.

Lofamia was 81 years old.

He started his career in 1967 as an illustrator and artist for comics magazine publisher Liwayway Publishing Inc.

According to writer Zedric Dimalanta in his comics and animation-themed blog, Lofamia was among the first Filipino Wave artists to be hired by DC Comics. He continued to contribute to both Pinoy Comics and American Comics.

Lofamia was also hired by Fox Animation as a layout artist for the 1997 animated film Anastasia and the 1999 film Bartok the Magnificent.

He also worked as a visual development artist for the 2000 animated sci-fi film Titan A.E.

Lofamia was a prominent figure in the Philippine comics scene.

The artist was also featured in Levi "Pepper" Marcelo's documentary entitled "Illustrated By" on Filipino comics artists. 

Lofamia is survived by his wife Remy, children Jojo and Mylene and five grandchildren.

Comics convention organizer Komikon also mourned his passing, expressing condolences to his family.
