This Batangas artist used Taal volcano ash for her paintings

As Taal Volcano spewed enormous amounts of ash from its crater this week, an artist in Tanauan, Batangas used it to paint.

According to a report on "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho," Janina Sanico felt the ground shake at home when the Taal volcano roared to life. 

Using ash she swept up from her yard, Janina painted scenes inspired by the volcano's devastating effects on Batangueños, like the fishkill linked to the volcanic sulfur.

The heavy ashfall from Taal affected thousands of residents and animals in Batangas, as well as other areas in Southern Luzon. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
