Iloilo mayor welcomes possibility of hosting Miss Universe Philippines 2021

There's a chance that the Miss Universe Philippines pageant will be held in Iloilo City this year.

According to a report by Ivan Aguana on DZBB Saturday, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas welcomed the proposal to host the competition, saying that it could help promote the city and boost local tourism.

The target date for the pageant is September, so Treñas is hopeful that the COVID-19 situation would be better by then, the report added.

Reigning Miss Universe Philippines queen Rabiya Mateo represented Iloilo City during last year's pageant.

Following Rabiya is Miss Paranaque Ysabella Ysmael as 1st runner-up, Quezon City Michele Gumabao as 2nd runner-up, Bohol Pauline Amelinckx as 3rd runner-up, and Cavite Billie Hakenson as 4th runner-up. —JCB, GMA News
