If there was anything that caught the devotees’ attention during Nazareno 2023’s Walk of Faith before dawn on Sunday, it would be this 46-year-old man who came dressed as a Marvel hero.

Dressed as Spider-Man from head to toe with a signage that says “always wear face mask,” the man said one of his wishes is for the COVID-19 pandemic to be over.

“Wish ko po ay unang-una, sana nasa mabuting kalagayan yung pamilya ko atsaka maging normal na ang buhay natin,” the man, who goes by the name Running Spiderman PH, told GMA Integrated News.

(My wish first of all is for my family to be in good health, and for our lives to go back to normal.)

“Sana po next year, balik tayo sa tradisyonal na Traslacion, 'yung kasama na po 'yung Nazareno.”

(Hopefully next year, we can hold the traditional Traslacion with the Nazareno.)

Walking with his chin up in a crowd of people, Running Spiderman PH was a sight to remember, making everyone point to his direction when he came near.

The devotee said he refuses to have his real identity known. He, however, can be easily recognized with appearances during events such as elections, he said.

Nazareno 2023’s Walk of Faith was held instead of the annual Traslacion amid the ongoing threat of COVID-19. It garnered 88,000 attendees who walked to show their faith for two and a half hours from Quirino Grandstand at Luneta Park to Quiapo Church in Manila.

This year’s festivities were already kicked-off with novena masses that started on December 31, 2022. It will last until January 9, where Cardinal Jose Advincula will lead a Mass to be held at 12:01 a.m. at the Quirino Grandstand. —KG, GMA Integrated News
