Summer is almost halfway through, but there's still plenty of time to check something off your bucket list. Summer workshops around the city include traditional Chinese painting, museum work, robotics, yoga, blogging, and even etiquette.

Shui Mo: Chinese Painting Workshops

Learn the art of traditional Chinese painting, or "shui mo" (water and ink) from Pieh Tsai Shiu-Yuin (Arsenia Lim), who has been teaching Chinese painting full-time since the mid-1960s.

"Practicing Chinese brush painting helps one quiet the mind and expand creativity, self-expression, and discipline," according to a press release from Yuchengco Museum, where Lim has been conducting her Shui Mo painting classes since 2006.

Traditional Chinese painting, or "shui mo" (water and ink), is created using a brush dipped in ink and water, and dipped in rice paper.

The workshop will include topics such as Bamboo, Poinsettia, Maple, and Banana.

Prior experience in Western or Chinese painting is recommended for those who will join the class.

The workshop fee is P6,000, which does not yet include materials. Supplies can be purchased from the instructor on the first session.

Classes are from 2 to 5 p.m. on 10 Saturday afternoons: April 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.

The eight-day program will culminate with a graduation and the launch of their very own exhibition in the afternoon of May 18.
