National essay contest to pay tribute to Filipino language

The Philippine government will pay tribute to the Filipino language this August with an essay competition organized by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino.

With “Wika Natin ang Daang Matuwid” as this year's theme, the Gawad KWF sa Sanaysay seeks to "sharpen, rekindle and further intellectualize the Filipino language."

"Ang pagpapahalaga ng isang tao sa kanyang wika ay sumasalamin sa kanyang mga gawain. Ang mga indibidwal na nabanggit ay maaaring nagpamalas sa kanilang larang ng kanilang kontribusyon sa wikang Filipino sa pamamagitan ng pagtuklas at pananaliksik, mga programa at serbisyong naitaguyod, o anumang produksyon at likha," it said.

Participants are to submit authentic, previously unpublished manuscripts written in Filipino, and must not be a translation from another language.

"Any form of plagiarism will not be tolerated and will be penalized. KWF has the right to revoke the awards given and is never allowed to join any of the competitions organized by KWF," the commission warned.

Entries may be sent personally or via registered mail. The deadline for the submission of entries is July 1.

The Gawad KWF sa Sanaysay 2013 is open to the public, except for KWF employees and their relatives. It must focus on the theme “Wika Natin ang Daang Matuwid” using a Literary History approach.

Contest guidelines and contact information can be found on the KWF site. — BM, GMA News
