Supercentenarian lola in Quezon celebrates 111th birthday

A woman in Quezon Province celebrated her 111th birthday on Saturday surrounded by her large and loving family.

Supercentenarian Teofila Robles viuda de Aguila, known as "Nanay Pilang" to her family, was born on December 28, 1903.

Her secret to long life? Eating nutritious food and having a prayerful heart.

"Ako'y nagpapasalamat sa Inang Birhen at ako'y nabubuhay pa," Nanay Pilang said in a report on 24 Oras Weekend on Sunday.

Already a widow with five children, Nanay Pilang never remarried. Her 111th birthday bash was celebrated with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were all sporting "Nanay Pilang turns 111" shirts in different colors.

Although Nanay Pilang is now more than a century old, she is not quite the oldest person alive. According to the Guinness World Records, the oldest living person is 116-year-old Misao Okawa of Japan who just celebrated her birthday last March. Trisha Macas/BM, GMA News
