MJ Lastimosa expresses gratitude, says she’s proud to be Pinoy

A few hours after the Miss Universe pageant ended with a win for Colombia's Paulina Vega, Miss Philippines Mary Jean "MJ" Lastimosa broke her social media silence and posted a message on Instagram saying she is grateful to everyone.

The beauty queen uploaded a photo of her in her swimwear with the word "Philippines" in the background.

It was captioned: "So proud to be a filipino! Man, cant express how grateful i am to everyone! Im filled with love right now! Love you all! Godbless us! Mabuhay!"

In an interview with GMA News' Portia Cristina Frando a few days before the coronation night, Lastimosa admitted that she was taking a break from social media to focus on the pageant.

"I notice that when I am busy in social media it takes so much time for me that I might not be able to make friends as much as possible... I want the people to see my presence here, so I decided to take a little rest from social media and I can always go back," she said.

Lastimosa only made it to the top 10. It was the first time since 2009 that the Philippines' bet did not make it to the pageant's final round. — Trisha Macas/BM, GMA News
