The Itchyworms drops back to back singles that capture distress over COVID-19 pandemic

The Itchyworms are back with not one, but two singles that capture the universal struggles amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The OPM band released "Armageddon Blues" and "The Silence" as a response to the social, mental, and emotional distress that people are currently experiencing.

According to a press release from Sony Music, "Armageddon Blues" is actually an updae of an old demo recorded by band members Jazz Nicolas and Chino Singson.

The song was written in 2005, but 15 years later, it was Jugs Jugueta who was the only one who had a copy of the demo.

He said, "Enhanced community quarantine happened, and I sent them the demo of 'Armageddon Blues,' telling The Itchyworms to release the song, because it captures the somewhat end-of-the-world vibe of our present situation."

And when the group realized that "we're in this for the long haul," they decided to write and record a few more songs inspired by their experience during the health crisis.

The songwriting sessions then birthed "The Silence," which they said is what they think "everyone is going through right now."

"Nobody could've foreseen 2020 to be like this," Jugs said.

Both singles are part of The Itchyworms' upcoming album "Waiting For The End To Start," which was conceptualized and recorded while the band members were confined in their homes.

"It's not necessarily all about COVID-19, but this is the result of what we feel during this time," Jazz said. "So there's restlessness, loneliness, boredom, delirium, fear, uncertainty, and all that jazz."
