A professional magician, who has fallen on hard times, may have chosen to work as a delivery rider but he continues to delight his clients by performing magic tricks.
GMA News' Vonne Aquino reported magician Jojoalier Cho's 'Kwento ng Pagbangon' on 24 Oras on Thursday.
Jojoalier Cho, more popularly known as Jojo, has been working as a magician for more than a decade that was mostly spent at an amusement park, which burned down in October last year.
Then there was the community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, in which a ban was imposed on social gatherings.
He used to earn P6,000 per magic show and between P15,000 to P45,000 for selling props.
“Wala talagang makapag-show na. So nasa bahay lang kami tapos siyempre habang tumatakbo ‘yung [mga] araw, nauubos ‘yung ipon,” he said.
He added that he was able to apply for work in a motorcycle ridesharing and delivery service company before the pandemic.
His wife, Ana Karissa, related that bookings for performances had to be cancelled.
“Very affected, kasi ang daming nawala. Unang una ‘yung trabaho kasi, siya kasi entertainer siya. Sa parties, sa events kami naka-ano. Kumbaga, no’ng pinagbawal ‘yun wala talaga kami. Lutang yung ano namin... May mga bookings na siya, canceled lahat,” she said.
Despite the setbacks, Cho did not lose heart as he entered the delivery business.
Jojo never lost his love of performing magic tricks to entertain people. So, in every delivery that he makes, he has an added twist.
One of his clients expressed his delight as Jojo delivers items on time and performs magic tricks.
“Simula noon, marami nang tumatawag sa’kin. Siguro natutuwa, nae-excite sa hindi lang nagpi-pick up, nagma-magic pa. So do’n ko nagamit ‘yung kaalaman ko sa magic, kinonnect ko siya sa pagde-deliver,” he said.
Cho also delivers items that his wife sells through her online business.
“Habang buhay, may pag-asa. ‘Wag mawalan ng pag-asa. So mag-isip kung ano ‘yung mapagkikitaan. ‘Wag mahiyang magtanong, ‘wag mahiyang kumilos kung kailangan naman at kaya naman talaga,” the magician said. -- Julia Mari Ornedo/BAP, GMA News
