Elliot Page becomes the first trans man to land on TIME cover

The Oscar nominee told TIME that he felt like a boy since he was young and he struggled with the "disconnect between how the world saw Page and who he knew himself to be."

He said it was also difficult to watch movies "especially ones in which he played more feminine roles."

"I just never recognized myself. For a long time I could not even look at a photo of myself," Elliot said.

Now, the actor said, "I'm fully who I am."

Elliot also expressed his gratitude for everyone who supported him.

"With deep respect for those who came before me, gratitude for those who have supported me and great concern for the generation of trans youth we must all protect, please join me and decry anti-trans legislation, hate and discrimination in all its forms," he said.

Elliot, who starred in "Juno" and "The Umbrella Academy," announced he was trans back in December.

Although the exclusive interview is available online, the magazine's latest copy will go on sale this Friday. —Kaela Malig/JCB, GMA News
