Face masks and face shields were among the trash collected from Philippine seas on World Cleanup Day.

According to Mav Gonzales' report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, 150 kilograms of garbage, including COVID-19 protective equipment, were gathered from the coastal cleanup in Legazpi City, Albay.

Face masks were also among those collected in the cleanup at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone shoreline.

In an earlier report by "i-Witness," residents and advocates already aired concern over the amount of waste, such as face masks, washing on the shore of Tingloy, Batangas every day.

According to a 2021 report of Our World in Data, a scientific online publication, 36% of plastic waste in Asia originate from the Philippines.
