Odette-hit Leyte areas helped by Kapuso Foundation feeding program, water kiosk

Residents affected by Typhoon Odette in Leyte were the beneficiaries of the GMA Kapuso Foundation’s feeding program and emergency water kiosk.

Among the 370 households provided with food and water in Barangay Tag-os in the municipality of Matalom is the family of Madelyn Palima, whose home of 19 years was wrecked by the storm.

They are now staying in a temporary shelter that her kids made from galvanized sheets and plywood they got as scraps from their previous home.

Despite everything, Palima said she is still thankful and hopeful that they got to mark New Year together.

“Hindi ko pinapakita sa kanila na malungkot ako. Umiiyak ako sa tago. ‘Pag mahina ako, lalo manghina ang mga anak ko. Sila ang lakas ko,” she said. “Gagawa nalang ng paraan. ‘Di padadaig sa pagsubok.”

(“I don’t show them that I’m sad. I hide when I cry. When I’m weak, they might feel down. They are my strength. We will just find a way. We can’t be let down by our struggles.”)

The feeding program, which served bowls of lomi with eggs, was done under the “Operation Bayanihan” project of the foundation.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Padre Burgos received an emergency water kiosk, which let residents get clean water at any time. This was done with the help of Planet Water Foundation.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Pay Maya, Zalora, Mega Mart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
