What's the difference between a sea turtle and a tortoise?

Ever got confused between a sea turtle and a tortoise? Look out for these points to tell each one from the other.

According to Kuya Kim on "24 Oras" Thursday, the tortoise is highly-adapted to land. As such, it has elephantine feet, which are similar to an elephant.

The sea turtle's feet, meanwhile, are flat. They use it to swim in the water.

As for their food, tortoises are herbivores who eat grass and vegetables while sea turtles feed on seagrass and fish, making them omnivores.

In San Juan, La Union, a rare kind of freshwater turtle was caught. Upon inspection, it was determined as a Chinese softshell turtle, which is usually imported or bred for restaurants.

"'Yung shell niya, malambot, madaming meat. Sobrang destructive niya. Once it's released in an area na 'di siya talaga do'n and wala siyang predators, they will take over," said Carlos Tamayo, operations director of the Coastal Underwater Resource Management Actions (CURMA).

("It's shell is soft and has a lot of meat. It's very destructive. Once it's released in an area where it's not native and it does not have predators, so they will take over.")
