A musical director organized a heartwarming online performance to pay tribute to a Filipino in California who died of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a Facebook post, Nové Deypalan shared his grief over the passing of his former student, 38-year-old Jorel Alfonso.

The Filipino-American conductor told GMA News Online that he taught Jorel and his younger brother the piano when they were children.

"Imagining the pain and sorrow of a loved one fighting in isolation moved me deeply," Nové said in his post.

He decided to invite his friends from all over the world to perform "Somewhere Out There" in honor of Jorel, who was a talented pianist.

They also dedicated the song to "all the people around the world who are fighting coronavirus."

"Someone is thinking of you," he said.

Nové, the artistic director of the Los Angeles Conducting Workshop and Competition, thanked his friends for taking part in the project.

"The video is not perfect," he said. "But I believe the  mistakes doesn’t constitute on the bigger picture–to provide comfort,  inspiration, love, and hope to those who are fighting coronavirus in isolation, which is far more important." —MGP, GMA News
