Couple cycle from Cavite to QC to reunite with son separated from them amid ECQ

A couple have cycled from Bacoor, Cavite, to Barangay Bagong Silang, Quezon City to be with their three-year-old son.

According to Jun Veneracion's report on “24 Oras” Tuesday, Bernard and Mhelsa Romana were separated from their only child since Matt Matt was with his grandparents in Quezon City when the enhanced community quarantine was imposed.

Since the enhanced community quarantine was modified in Metro Manila, the couple was able to get out of Cavite and see their son after two months of being apart.

Starting at four in the morning, the couple made their way through the streets of Quezon City, with Mhelsa’s bicycle tied to Bernard as he pedaled for the two of them.

Bernard kept cycling even when his bicycle’s wheel got busted. Fortunately, the GMA crew saw them and was able to help them out.

After four hours of cycling, they finally saw their son.  Mhelsa said, “Sobrang nakakamiss po talaga, na makikita mo sa video. Iba parin kung nakakasama mo talaga siya.”

Meanwhile, a man was spotted pushing his handicapped wife in a wheelchair along the streets of Caloocan City.

According to Bobby Que, his wife, Joan lost her leg six years ago due to diabetes and just last year, she suffered from a stroke.

Since the couple was unable to receive any social amelioration subsidy from the government, they decided to beg on the streets to survive.

Que shared that even though he wanted to look for other ways to earn, nobody else could look after his wife. Their son, he said, was still too young.

“Mahirap nga po iba-ibang tao kailangan lapitan mo, hingan mo. Tingin ko ang kapal na ng mukha ko,” he said. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
