Instead of holding reception, couple donates PPEs to hospital right after wedding

A newly married couple decided to ditch the traditional reception and instead opted to donate personal protective equipment at a hospital right after their wedding ceremony.

According Oscar Oida's report for "24 Oras," Wilbert and Harlene Silverio were supposed to marry on April 24 but the coronavirus pandemic forced them to change their plans.

With mass gatherings prohibited and rules on social distancing, however, it wasn't as simple as rescheduling on another date.

"I have to make a bold decision to push through 'yung wedding. Ako na lang din pala 'yung iniintay niya na mag-decide," Wilbert said.

When they finally made up their mind, they had the idea of doing something different to celebrate their union in these extraordinary times.

And that's exactly what they did. Still clad in their wedding outfits, they headed to the hospital and showed their appreciation to health workers.

"Sa kabila ng lahat na may pinagdadanan tayo, may pandemic po tayo, ma-push po 'yung holy sacrament po ng kasal, ma-honor namin si God sa kasal namin," Harlene said.

Aside from PPEs, they personally distributed grocery packages to medical frontliners.

The couple said it was also their way of thanksgiving because they were able to marry despite the current health crisis.

Their message to other couples facing challenges and uncertainties in these trying times?

"Just keep the faith po kay God kasi siya po 'yung may kontrol ng lahat." —MGP, GMA News
