Here’s why, in the time of COVID-19, knowing our love language is important

It’s no secret that relationships, be it romantic, friendship or family, have been affected as the world goes on standstill amid the pandemic.

Since close contact visits and physical touches are prohibited to safeguard our loved ones from contracting the virus, many people have had to adapt and change the way they communicate and express their love.

Despite limitations, relationship coach Aileen Santos shared in an episode of “Better Normal PH” that now, more than ever, we should make our partners, friends, and family feel loved in a time of isolation.

To make our loved ones feel our affection amid the pandemic, here are a few tips on how to do just that based on their love languages:

1. Words of affirmation and quality time

Since being with each other physically isn’t ideal for now, Aileen shared that you can instead spend time through virtual means.

“So ginagawa naming ’no, matagal na kaming hindi nagge-get together ng family members namin, so ginawa lang namin iyong quality time at words talagang every week mayroon kaming call,” Aileen shared.

“May video call talaga kami na naka-schedule. Pinagpra-pray namin isa’t-isa. Kinakamusta namin ano na nangyayari,” she added.

Although we can’t physically be together any time soon, showing you care by setting time to talk to each other can also uplift each other’s spirits.

2. Acts of service

If your loved ones express or feel love through acts of service, and you can’t be around them to do just that, you can opt to have something delivered to them to help them out with their day.

“Halimbawa hindi sila makapagluto at that time tapos pwede ka naman um-order ng delivery para sa kanila,” said Aileen.

According to infectious diseases specialist Dr. Rontgene Solante, relationships nowadays have to be sacrificed for the sake of our health.

One of the best ways to show our love, he said, is to understand the dangers of close contact transmission and understand that the time now calls for a little sacrifice on our part. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
