Rob Schneider's Filipino mother passes away

Rob Schneider's Filipino mother, Pilar Monroe Schneider, has died.

The Hollywood actor announced the news on social media, saying "she passed away peacefully after spending a perfect Sunday evening family dinner surrounded with loved ones at her side."

Schneider paid tribute to his mother by sharing her incredible story in his post, from her childhood as a World War II survivor to her legacy as an educator in California.

He said that Pilar was the daughter of an American soldier who left before she was born, and her brothers John and Bill were both killed by the Japanese as teenagers.

Since food was scarce during the war, she would sew pajamas from bedsheets with her mother and trade them for food.

According to Schneider, his mom was able to "pay for school" because she and her sister Rose found some "money the Japanese buried in a cave."

She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas  then moved to the US in the 1950s.

There, she earned her master’s degree as a reading specialist and was later elected to the school board in Pacifica, California, “getting more votes than Bill Clinton.”

“Pilar bécame a beloved teacher for 3 decades and three generations of children who would be grateful that years later she remembered every one of their names,” Schneider said.

“After retiring from teaching Pilar made sure that the Schools in her town where she raised all her children, Pacifica, all had music teachers and music classes, a program she ran for 15 years,” he added.

He then said that Pilar was with her daughter April, son-in-law Matt, granddaughter Crystal, and her great grandchildren in her dying moments.

“Pilar spoke often of joining her beloved husband of 39 years, my lovely father Marvin Schneider. That day has come for them to be together,” Schneider said.

“I am proud to be able to say that I am the son of Pilar Monroe Schneider,” he added. 

Schneider is an actor, comedian, screenwriter and director who starred in “Benchwarmers” and many other films with Adam Sandler, including “Grown Ups,” “50 First Dates,” and “Click.”

He most recently appeared in “Hubie Halloween,” Sandler’s family-friendly Halloween comedy which premiered last October 2020 on Netflix. —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
