Tom Rodriguez proposed to Carla Abellana several times on-screen, but doing it IRL 'still felt different'

When Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana dropped their engagement photos on Sunday, it's not exactly the first time that we see the pair in a proposal scene.

In Nelson Canlas' report on "24 Oras," Tom himself acknowledged that he already proposed to Carla so many times on-screen thanks to the shows they did together.

But just because he acted it out before doesn't mean it's not an entirely new experience for him.

"Part of me [wondered] if it was gonna feel different or if it was gonna feel just like all the other times but iba pa rin pala [it was still different after all]," he said.

According to Tom, he is a "very lucky man" for loving Carla who always inspires him.

"You always make me strive to be a better person because I feel your love so much that it fuels me to do everything that I do," he said.

"It makes me feel so invigorated and be there to see us create a family and future together," he added.

The couple announced their engagement on Sunday through their Instagram accounts but revealed that they have been engaged since October 2020.

Tom and Carla said they wanted to keep it private first and be "sensitive" about the world's current struggles.

They plan to hold their classic-style church wedding this year once the country's current situation gets better.

Tom and Carla have been together for almost seven years. They met through GMA's hit series "My Husband’s Lover" in 2013. —Franchesca Viernes/MGP, GMA News
