73-year-old lola sells ice cream on foot to support family amid pandemic

A 73-year-old woman in Bulacan has been selling ice cream on foot to support her family amid the pandemic.

According to "Unang Hirit," Angeles Merin remains the breadwinner of her household because her husband has suffered a stroke. She also cares for her sick daughter and her husband, who has also survived a stroke.

To do this, she goes around four barangays every day, hoping for someone to buy her ice cream.

Lola Angeles once slipped and fell during her rounds, so she now has to carry a heavy box with a bad arm.

She takes a break by having a small snack at a store and waits until the end of the day before she can have a full rice meal back home.

"Bibilangin ko na ang kita ko para may pambili naman sila bukas ng makakain bago ako umalis magtinda," she tells UH.

"Ito lang kinita ko kasi matumal ngayon kasi umaambon ambon, babawi na lang tayo bukas."

Unang Hirit surprised Lola Angeles with food and grocery items as a small token for her hard work and dedication, which has inspired thousands of netizens online. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
