Rihanna on her mom’s 54th birthday: ‘She’s the true MVP’

"Umbrella" hitmaker Rihanna has expressed appreciation for her mother, Monica Braithwaite, who turns 54 this year.

Now that the 34-year-old Rihanna is soon to be a mom, she took to Instagram to reveal how she "unlocked" a whole new level of love and respect for her mother.

"Today is my Queen's birthday!!! Being on the verge of motherhood, unlocked new levels of love and respect I have for my mommy in a way that I could never explain," Rihanna wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.

To complement the birthday greeting, Rihanna shared a throwback photo of a mini-her and her mom matching in white puff-sleeved and ruffled dresses while they sat in a church. How nostalgic, Riri!

The Barbadian singer then called her mom the real MVP of her life. "She's the true MVP, and I wanna give her flowers every second I can! Love you mumzzzz!!!"

In the same Instagram post, Rihanna also promised her mom that they would celebrate when they meet again soon.

"Happy Birthday! We gon celebrate on da link up!" she said.
