Can friends be in a romantic relationship together?

Mavy Legaspi and Kyline Alcantara answered this question in a press conference for "Zero Kilometers Away," their new digital series that will premiere on March 10.

The Sparkle stars are set to play childhood best friends who navigate the online dating world separately—and then, perhaps with each other.

"Ang sinasabi ng mga friends natin na galing talaga sila as friends then, na-jump dun sa relationship, you really need to remain friends even though you're romantically together," Kyline said.

"Kailangan di mo malayo kasi 'yung friendship na 'yon, it's a really great foundation to start a relationship and to have a stronger relationship for longer."

Mavy also agreed, sharing the experience of his parents, Carmina Villarroel and Zoren Legaspi, who started out as friends.

"For the longest time, best friends sila pero of course, they each had their own fair share of boyfriends and girlfriends," he said.

"Today, they realize they're meant to be so it's really possible talaga na best friends really fall in love and really enter a relationship only if you're ready to take that risk."

In "Zero Kilometers Away," Mavy plays Ardi while Kyline plays Gwen. The two are childhood best friends who are about to finish school. Gwen is having a major FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) as she longs to be in a romantic relationship. Ardi then encourages her to try online dating apps. 

What follows is a series of online dating adventures and misadventures where they meet people from all walks—and quirks—of life. However, the two of them actually harbor feelings for each other.

"[There will be] paasa moments, 'Magiging sila na ba?' Or paasa in a way na, 'Sana naman maging sila na.' O 'Lalayo ba 'to?', 'Mami-meet ba siya?', 'Magiging sila ba ng mga meet niya?'" Kyline said.

Joining them on the digital series are Kara David, Kuya Kim Atienza, Drew Arellano, Iya Arellano, Sparkle artists Caitlyn Stave, Raheel Bhyria, and Kaloy Tingcungco, TikTok sensation Rosmar Tan, Jerome Pamulaklakin, and Gigi Locsin. More Kapuso personalities are expected to appear in each episode.

"Zero Kilometers Away" is a six-part digital series written by Mario Banzon and directed by Maikel Cardoz.

The series premieres on Friday at 6 p.m. on various GMA Network online platforms and GMA Public Affairs' YouTube channel and Facebook pages.

The next episodes, which are 15 to 20 minutes each, are scheduled to be released on March 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20.
