Hong Kong’s The Coffee Academics to open Manila outpost in September

For many people, mornings begin with coffee. While most are satisfied with instant coffee, a growing number of coffee drinkers are looking for a serious brew. Coffee connoisseurs would be ecstatic to know that the famous Hong Kong-based specialty shop The Coffee Academics (TCA) is opening an outpost in Metro Manila on September 7 in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Founded in 2012 in the heart of bustling Causeway Bay, TCA is known for its world-class specialty coffee, some of which have garnered accolades in the industry. House favorites in fact have been awarded 90+ points Coffee Blend Score by Coffee Review and 83+ points Coffee Beans by Specialty Coffee Association.

TCA’s coffee-making is like a science. Patrons would be assured of genuine and fresh specialty coffee since the brand purchases and tests green beans before it goes to their own roasteries.

For about a decade now, it has been globally sourcing and roasting its own beans, getting only the top 5% of special Arabica coffee, grown in ideal climates to produce that unique flavor and distinctive taste.

The brand gets green beans from over 50 farms around the globe and directly transact with multiple farms to ensure fair trade. Aside from this, TCA works with various non-governmental organizations connected to these farmers like “Women in Coffee” program in Brazil, “Youth Empowerment” program in Honduras, and Medicare in Yunnan to support the Lisu minority. Rest assured that TCA coffee tastes good and lets you feel good as 100% of its sourced beans are certified Rainforest Alliance and/or Fair-trade beans.

TCA treats the beans individually so it will retain its distinct roasting profiles. Every month, it produces several tons of roasted beans and supplies it to their 20 coffee houses and kiosks around Hong Kong. At the moment, it has existing hubs in Singapore, Mainland China, Thailand, Macau, and Indonesia. The Philippines is up next.

“We promise to deliver the same specialty coffee experience that TCA is known for and introducing the Filipino palate to their new brunch favorites like the Espresso Butter Pancakes, Tomato Medley, and Potato Rosti.  It’s a place that you’d go for the coffee but stay for the food,” shared Loraine Consunji, TCA's Philippine franchise holder.

Once dining out becomes allowed, you can sample their curated menu and pair it with a cup of Joe—choose from over 30 different single-origin coffee beans and blends.

Get caffeinated when The Coffee Academics first opens a kiosk in Bonifacio Global City on September 7, and a full-scale café in Makati City in October. Or better yet, get your caffeine fix from its online retail shop and enjoy being a barista at home.

The Coffee Academics will open a kiosk in High Street South Corporate Plaza, Tower One, 26th Street cor. 9th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City. A full-scale café in F&M Lopez Building, C. Palanca Street, Legazpi Village, Makati City will follow in October. thecoffeeacademicsph.beepit.com; @thecoffeeacademicsph.
