Hotsilog, kinalas named as some of the 'worst dishes in the world' by Taste Atlas

Looks like some Filipino staples don't go down well with other people.

Taste Atlas, an "encyclopedia of flavors" publication, just named hotsilog and kinalas in their list of 100 worst-rated dishes in the world.

Kinalas was ranked no. 17 with a 2.4 ranking, while hotsilog was at no. 36 with a 2.6 score.

Two other Filipino dishes were included in the full list: Pinoy-style spaghetti, and balut..

It described Filipino spaghetti as "sweet, combining the noodles with ground meat, hot dogs, banana ketchup, and sugar" — unlike the Italian version.

"Today, this inexpensive meal is known as the one that unites families, and is consumed by both poor and rich people."

Meanwhile, it said balut was a "popular, although unusual Filipino delicacy, served everywhere from street stalls to upscale restaurants. It is a duck egg that has been hard-boiled, fertilized, and incubated. Traditionally, the cooked embryo is consumed straight from the shell."

It added that balut was considered an "aphrodisiac that is commonly paired with a cold beer on the side."

Just a few days prior, Tastle Atlas named bibingka one of the 100 best cakes in the world.
