Is your vaginal discharge a sign of infection or cervical cancer?

Vaginal discharge is normal when you are ovulating, but a change in it might be a sign that you have an infection or a cervical cancer.

"Ang vaginal discharge normal ito kasi during ovulation period talagang nae-enhance 'yong secretion or 'yong production ng vaginal discharge," OB-Gynecologist Dr. Raul Quillamor said in an episode on Pinoy MD.

Dr. Quillamor said if the discharge is persistently changing color — from white-ish, yellow-ish or green-ish — it might be a sign of infection.

"'Pag may change in color, doon na dapat mababahala ang isang babae kasi 'eto ay puwedeng sign ng infection," he said, adding it won't go away unless cured or addressed.

"This is the reason why nagiging sign ang vaginal discharge kahit ano pang gawin nila diyan talagang tuloy tuloy 'yon kasi hindi naa-address 'yong main cause ng vaginal discharge, which is the infection."

He said women should worry when their discharge becomes brown-ish red-ish and yellow-ish with a tinge of blood because it might be a sign of cervical cancer.

"'Pag nagiging brown-ish 'yan or reddish brown or yellowish, na may tinge of blood, puwede rin siyang maging sign ng cervical cancer or cancer ng vagina."

Quillamor said women should consult their OB-Gynecologist if they experience these kinds of vaginal discharge. — LA, GMA News
