Woman ditches slimming pills, loses weight through low-carb diet

Having a low-carb diet is better than relying on slimming pills.

An episode of Pinoy MD told the story of 29-year-old Jenny. A slim lady at 110 lbs, Jenny started gaining weight after moving in with her boyfriend, now her husband.

It was a comfortable, relaxed, and happy life. She ate up to 4 cups of rice a meal, munched on chocolates, and barely did any exercise that Jenny ended up tipping the scale at 158 lbs.

Realizing, she had to do something about her body, Jenny relied on slimming pills, which only made matters worse.

"Nandoon na kasi ako sa stage na feeling ko di ko na kaya magpapayat, kumapit na lang ako sa mga bagay na nakikita ko sa Facebook (like 'yong slimming pills), kaya naniwala ako that time na baka ito na 'yong solusyon," she said.

She lost the weight when she worked as a caregiver in Hong Kong for two years, but gained it all again when she returned to the Philippines. Apart from becoming a new mom, she started a baking business, that gave her a free pass to taste all the sweet treats, resulting in more weight gained.

In 2018, Jenny was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. She refused to leave her house because of all the teasing and bullying. Whatever bad feelings she got, she treated by way of food. Soon, she weighed 176 lbs.

The extra weight made itself felt on her back and her legs. Jenny knew she had to start living better. At the beginning of 2019, Jenny started by going on a low-carb diet.

The baker found a way to indulge her cravings by making low-carb breads. She also started circuit training.

After five months, Jenny's weight has gone down to 114 lbs. She also learned to love herself more during the process. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/LA, GMA News
