Doctor creates portable disinfectant chamber after recovering from COVID-19 symptoms

A doctor who previously became a person under investigation (PUI) has created a disinfectant chamber to help fight against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a Sumbungan ng Bayan episode on Monday, Dr. Gino Natividad shared that he first thought of the idea while he was still under self-quarantine.

He wanted to address the medical frontliners's fear of bringing the virus home to their loved ones.

"Paglabas mo o bago ka umalis ng COVID ward or ng mismong ospital, mas maganda na-disinfect ka," he said.

Natividad became a PUI after showing respiratory symptoms. Luckily, his COVID-19 test came out negative and he soon resumed going back to work.

With the help of engineer Jomar Palomaria, he created a portable disinfectant chamber that sprays a chlorine solution.

The internal medicine doctor said the chamber is similar to the tents installed outside markets and other establishments.

"Ang pinagkakaiba lang nito is ito ay isang chamber box, kasya ipasok sa loob ng ospital," he said.

Natividad said the chamber can be placed in the hospital hallways or even inside a patient's room.

However, the doctor said that the getting disinfected with the chlorine solution does not guarantee that the virus can be killed 100 percent.

"Ang sure sa amin is mababawasan 'yung virus na didikit sa damit mo at sa balat mo para pag-uwi mo mas malinis ka," he said. --Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
