Bike advocates give away free reflective sashes to bikers in Quezon City

As more and more people in Metro Manila turn to biking as their mode of transportation, bike advocates are also increasing their efforts to promote safety.

In photos shared by Bikers United Marshalls, advocates were seen giving away free reflective sashes to bikers passing through Visayas Avenue in Quezon City.

The group said the sashes were being given away for free to help bikers stay safe on the road.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has started coordinating with local authorities in Metro Manila to establish bicycle lanes for road safety amid the lockdown to prevent the further spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

DOTr Assistant Secretary Steve Pastor has stressed that the use of two-wheeled vehicles like bicycles will allow the public to comply with social distancing measures issued by authorities.

Following Pasig, San Juan has also created pop-up bicycle lanes.

In the meantime, here are some additional road safety tips for those who are new to cycling along public roads. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
