Here’s how you can combat Zoom fatigue

If you’re experiencing headaches, blurred vision, body pains, lethargy, and exhaustion in between video calls, you might have what medical experts call a “Zoom fatigue.”

According to a report on “Stand for Truth” on Friday, Gia Sison, an occupational physician, said a few reasons why individuals experience “Zoom fatigue” include the chronic prolonged use of computers and sitting for too long.

But how can you avoid this so-called “Zoom fatigue”? Find your P.E.A.C.E.

Planned breaks

Sison said individuals should get a maximum break of 30 minutes in between video calls.

“Kung hindi puwedeng maiwasan, puwedeng every hour you take a break,” she added.

Exercise

Sison said stretching break is very important.

When it comes to computer use, she said individuals should follow the 20-20-20 rule.

“For every 20-minute use, look away for 20 seconds at something that’s 20 feet away from you,” she said.

Attention

Sison said individuals should focus on one task at a time as switching between tasks without finishing first is not healthy for the brain.

“Try to compartmentalize what you really need to do. The rest, isantabi muna,” she said.

Cool down

Detaching from video calls from time to time also helps.

End the work day

Lastly, Sison said to always set boundaries to maintain a work-life balance.

“Kung saan ka magta-trabaho, paglabas mo sa space na ’yon, understood na magre-relax ka,” she said. – Ma. Angelica Garcia/RC, GMA News
