DOH reminds public to observe ventilation guidelines vs. COVID-19

The Department of Health on Monday reminded the public to observe ventilation guidelines to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, even if it maintains that it is yet to be conclusively determined that the virus is airborne.

“Kahit na wala pa pong conclusion na airborne ang COVID-19 virus, we issued ventilation guidelines para maging gabay natin at mga administrative and engineering controls ng mga closed indoor spaces,” Health Undersecretary Rosario Vergeire said.

These guidelines, she said, are under Department Order 2020-0429.

“Iyong iba po, kapag init na init, tatapat sa electric fan o sa aircon. Iwasan po natin ang ganun practice. Sa common comfort rooms naman,  mag-install po ng exhaust fan at lagi po itong dapat naka-on hangga’t maari,” Vergeire added.

She called on the public to refrain from using the circulated air option inside airconditioned vehicles.

The same Department Order, however, also states that improvements in ventilation are space specific and measures should be adjusted accordingly.

“Consultation with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning specialists and industrial hygienist is recommended,” Vergeire said.

The Philippines has recorded 342,816 COVID-19 cases so far.

Of this number, 293,152 recovered while 6,332 died. — BM, GMA News
