Is it safe to keep cracking your bones?

It's a common, if not mindless habit, cracking our bones especially the joints in our fingers. And In a Pinoy MD episode, Dr. Roland Balburias said this habit is actually normal.

The popping sound, known as crepitus, happens when our joints lack the synovial fluid, which lubricates our joints. It's common too, especially when we are dehydrated.

But Balburias warns you may want to lay off cracking your neck. "Delikado sa leeg," he began, "lalo na if you don't know the alignment of your cervical bone. Mamaya, may misalignment at pag ginalaw natin, eh and ba ang nasa luob no? That's our spinal cord."

If you feel the need to crack and pop your neck, perhaps it's best to visit a chiropractor. — LA, GMA News
