Woman who shed 53 kilos shares fitness journey


People used to tell her things like, "'Di ka na papayat," and "Mukha kang nanay," but look at her now!

Icay Tormon went from 102 kilos down to 49 kilos, after several attempts to lose weight. It wasn't an easy fitness journey especially because she admitted that she didn't like exercising and she loved to eat.

"Ilang beses na rin ako nag-attempt na mag-gym, ilang beses na rin ako nagpa-membership, wala talaga, 'di ko talaga kaya," she shared in an episode of Brigada.

Icay was 18 when she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a disorder that caused hormonal imbalances. One of the common effects is weight gain.

After falling into the habit of stress eating, Icay gained weight and started experiencing health issues.

"'Pag matutulog ako, naghahanap ako ng posisyon na makakahinga ako ng maayos. May nararamdaman ako noon, parang acidi ako, tapos sumasakit dibdib ko talaga, parang nahihirapan ako," she recalled.

Health risks posed by being overweight include high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression, among others.

And so Icay, determined to lose weight, took on an 80 percent diet and 20 percent exercise program.

Her meals would be comprised of cucumbers, eggs, chia seeds, mayonnaise, and chicken meat.

Now, Icay boasts of a 49 kilo-body after shedding 53 kilos.

"Nagsilbing motivation sila sakin, 'yung mga sinasabi nila," she said, referring to the comments she got when she was bigger.

"Mas na-gain 'yung confidence natin at nalayo sa sakit," she added. —JCB, GMA News
