Sam Pinto shares her birthing story, reveals she had preeclampsia

Sam Pinto took to Instagram to open up about giving birth and welcoming her first child during the pandemic.

"I was 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant when we decided to check in the hospital," Sam wrote, sharing a photo of herself with her baby Mia.

Sam said the first thing she needed to be admitted was to get a negative RT-PCR test valid for seven days.

She said she did a home service three days prior to giving birth.

"We wanted to go for a normal delivery as much as possible—which I did," she said.

However, Sam said "there were some issues that can make me have [a] c-section like I was pre eclampsia."

According to WebMD, preeclampsia happens "when pregnant women have high blood pressure, protein in their urine, and swelling in their legs, feet, and hands."

"It can range from mild to severe. It usually happens late in pregnancy, though it can come earlier or just after delivery," it added.

Sam said despite being the healthiest she'd ever been, "for some reason I developed hypertension during my pregnancy."

"Maybe cause my mom also was pre eclampsia. Secondly, Mia was small. When I was 36 weeks pregnant, her size was 32 weeks."

Sam said she "had to drink this special vitamins and in 2 weeks, her size was perfect.

Another struggle she went through was that her placenta was low "for the longest time."

"It’s suppose to go up early on the pregnancy. But mine took its time. Finally on my 36th week, it went up," she said.

"Oh if it doesn’t go up, I would have to do a c-section cause it’s blocking the birth canal."

Sam said her husband Anthony Semerad helped her check in at the hospital. He later went back home because she didn't want him to wait at the hospital and "be too exposed."

"I was nervous and felt like floating and the anticipation was just overwhelming," she said.

"Since it’s my first baby, I didn’t know what to expect. But I was already feeling some weird throbbing and didn’t know that was already contractions and was in the first stage of labor."

Sam said before giving birth she "was alone the whole time—honestly I didn’t mind ... at least no pressure."

"Had my phone with me to keep me entertained. Plus I was on epidural so I kept dozing off."

After 16 hours, Sam said baby Mia was ready to come out and her husband Anthony was already at the delivery room.

"After 3 pushes, she was out! Anthony cut her umbilical cord. Stayed in the hospital for technically 3 days. 1 day for labor and 2 days recovery room," she said.

"Everything about giving birth is so intense," she added.

"But my body is made for this. Thank you to all doctors and nurses and salute to all the mommas."
