Xian Lim reveals being bullied as a child, tells those struggling to fit in: 'There's nothing wrong with you'

Good-natured and easygoing Xian Lim seems to be among the most well-adjusted people in show business.

But that hasn't been always the case. In an episode of "Updated with Nelson Canlas," the introverted Xian shared he was actually bullied as a child.

"Maybe I just didn't fit in, 'yong hulma ng mga bata, and I had a really strong accent when we moved in middle school," Xian looks back on his years in the US, moving from one school to another.

"There's definitely nothing wrong with my hairstyle or my appearance," he continues. "I was overweight and people were, 'yon nga — ikaw 'yong nakikita because you didn't fit the mold."

According to Xian, he would eat lunch in the bathroom and sometimes, he'd get his money stolen too. "Kids would beat me up," he admitted.

Sometime in the podcast, Xian told Nelson that during the confusing, terrifying stage that was adolescent, he really only wanted to fit in.

"I think, it's the most terrifying stage para for me," he said. "Dahil you don't know pa kung saan mo ilalagay 'yong sarili mo, you're kinda confused, all these things are happening  to your body. Socially hindi mo alam sino ka ba talaga.

"Fitting in was the whole world to me, parang gano'n. Gusto kong pumasok, I wanted to gain friends, I wanted to be accepted or even my dream was even to be one of the popular kids. But that wasn't, pero hindi 'yon ang hulma ko e"

The "False Positive" actor was quick to clarify he was sharing this awkward, if painful past to assure those struggling to fit in that there's nothing wrong with them.

"I want the kids, 'yong mga misfits katulad ko to know that it's really okay. There's nothing wrong with being a misfit. There's nothing wrong with being the kid who doesn’t talk. 'Yong alam mo 'yon 'yong gusto lang to be in the corner, walang mga kaibigan, it's okay," he said.

Looking back, the actor now realizes where he got things wrong. "I was very pushy," Xian realizes. "Gusto kong, I wanna fit in! But you don't have to fit in di ba? If you just — easier said than done, pero if you're just yourself, you act like yourself, the right people will come in, you don't have to chase other people."

"You'll find your place," Xian assured them.

And as we all know, Xian eventually found his place — in show business no less — hanging out with his tribe.
