Why do I get dizzy whenever I stand up?

Do you ever get dizzy whenever you stand up? In a recent Pinoy MD episode, Dr. Oyie Balburias said you might have Near Syncope, or simply Syncope.

According to Balburias, dizziness due to sudden changes in position, like standing up, is a result of low blood flow to the brain.

"Kailangan natin imbestigahan yung daloy ng dugo duon sa carotid artery," he said, adding it's important to see you have a carotid artery stenosis, or the narrowing in the large arteries on each side of the neck.

Carotid artery stenosis not only affects the function of your baroreceptor, which is important because it stops the sudden drop of your blood pressure, but the blood flow to your brain, as well, which is what the doctor suspects to be the cause of dizziness whenever you stand up abruptly.
