Ice drop vendor who lost an arm receives prosthetic hand from GMA Kapuso Foundation

A 55-year-old ice drop vendor who lost his right arm due to electrocution has received a prosthetic hand from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a "24 Oras" report on Friday, Romeo Villacampa, who hails from Gumaca, Quezon, was working at a construction site when the accident occurred.

"Pagsungkit ko, nasungkit ko po 'yung subdivision na may hawak ng kuryente. Eh di ako'y tumalbog, sunog ang ganito kong braso, maitim. Tapos 'yung kamay maambok na naluto ho," he said.

("I poked a subdivision holding electricity. I was knocked back and my arm was burned and blackened. My hand was swollen after getting cooked.")

Despite his disability, Romeo did not stop working and he is still selling ice drops in the streets to this day. Only a long-sleeved polo shirt sewn by his wife hid his missing arm.

Thanks to the GMA Kapuso Foundation, the LN-4 Foundation, Naked World Philippines, Romeo and five other beneficiaries received prosthetic hands.

"What drives us is when we give the prosthetic hand to our beneficiaries, makita mo kung gaano sila kasaya [you can see how happy they are]. Now they can be employed, they can help with household chores," said Grace Cabato of LN-4 Foundation.

Meanwhile, the GMA Kapuso Foundation also gave strollers and wheelchairs to 30 residents in need in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
