Teen on viral hug with Meghan Markle: ‘I just wanted to show her that she's welcome here’

Meghan Markle's hug with a 14-year-old girl has been making the rounds online.

The touching moment came when Prince Harry and Prince William, along with their spouses, made a surprise walkabout on Saturday in Windsor, England, where people have gathered to mourn and honor Queen Elizabeth II.

The young lady—who attended with her mother—told CNN she was not expecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to be part of the walkabout.

The Duchess of Sussex had asked her how her day was and how long she had been waiting. “And I asked her if I can have a hug and she hugged me back,” she said.

"It was quite an amazing moment. I'm still shaking now. I can't really explain what the feeling was when she did it, but it was really nice," she added.

Asked why she felt like she wanted to hug Meghan, the teen said, “I guess I just felt like I needed to, in a way," and that "it just felt like it was the right thing to do."

The teenager agreed that Meghan is also going through a lot.

“I just wanted to like show her that she's like, welcome here. I wanted to hug her after everything that's happened really now," the girl added.

Meghan and Prince Harry have stepped down from royal duties in 2020.

In 2021, she opened up about her difficult relationship with the royal family in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
