'Trese' is a graphic novel created by Budjette Tan and illustrated by Kajo Balidissmo. Set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings.

According to Netflix, 'Trese' will be executively produced by Jay Oliva (Wonder Woman). Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson at BASE Entertainment, a studio based in Jakarta and Singapore, will act as producers.

Netflix left out a timeline as for when 'Trese' will be available for streaming.

A day before the announcement, Budjette Tan took to Twitter to crowdfund the global edition of Trese issue 1.

"Since 2005, TRESE has been published and distributed in the Philippines. While we feel lucky and thankful for all the readers who’ve picked up our books, we’ve always dreamed for TRESE to reach more readers in foreign shores. With your help, we target to have the funds to print a new edition of TRESE Issue 1 (with updated art and bonus content), and be able to ship it to readers around the world. The funds we generate will also allow Kajo to devote more time to illustrating the pages," Budjette wrote in its crowdfunding page.

They are looking to raise $4,013 and has since raised 88% of their target goal. Budjette and Kajo have five more days to reach 100% of their goal. — With reporting by Yvan Limson/ LA, GMA News
