'Legally Blonde 3' officially in the works

A third "Legally Blonde" movie is officially in the works!

Reese Witherspoon, who played the iconic Elle Woods, just confirmed the news on Instagram, revealing that Mindy Kaling ("Parks and Recreation") will be co-writing the script with Dan Goor.

It's been about 17 years since we last saw Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a blonde American woman determined to defy gender stereotypes by succeeding on her own terms.

In the first "Legally Blonde"movie that came out in 2001, Elle attempts to win back her ex-boyfriend by getting a degree at Harvard Law School, but ends up becoming a successful lawyer in the process.

In the 2003 sequel "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde," Elle heads to Washington D.C. to fight for animal rights before eventually setting her sights on the White House.

Witherspoon teased the return of "Legally Blonde" as early as June of 2018, when she posted this video of her blonde self, chilling in a pool in a pink bikini.
