A 'Sonic the Hedgehog' sequel is in the works

"Sonic the Hedgehog" is reportedly getting a sequel.

According to Variety, Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy confirmed the news, though the movie was "still in the development stage so decisions have not been made yet regarding casting or a production start date."

The first "Sonic the Hedgehog" live action film was released in February 2020.

Based on the video game franchise published by Sega, the story follows Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) and his best friend Tom (James Marsden) as they defend the Earth from the evil genius Dr. Robotnic (Jim Carrey).

"Sonic the Hedgehog" was the feature directorial debut of Jeff Fowler and written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.

Variety reports that all three of them will be reteamed for the sequel, whereas Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara are producing the film.
