Bring your school game to the next level

Can you start living your dream career while still in school? Of course! In fact, it’s probably the best time for you to do so. Beginning early in the game is how you can pave your own path to success after graduation.

Like in games, the best thing to do is to improve your skills and gain experience as much as you can, even beyond the confines of school hours. After all, learning isn’t limited to the four corners of a classroom or within the walls of your college. That’s the winning mindset of successful people in their fields.

So what can you do as a student? Remember these three words: look, listen, and learn.

Look for educational seminars

Seminars are a great way to get information on specific topics or discipline that you might not get from your textbooks.  On top of that, you can learn valuable insights about your chosen industry straight from the experts themselves.

Listen to expert knowledge.

Be attentive to what professionals have to say about their own experiences working in their fields. Never underestimate the importance of role models to guide you as you create your own dream career.

Learn to network.

You don’t have to be working to be able to build a professional network. As a student, your potential contacts may also help you after college. These contacts include your friends, alumni, teachers, school organizations, and your internships. Having a professional network can lead to even more opportunities for you.

This is the truth about working in the real world. One never stops looking for new knowledge and opportunities to improve in order to achieve success.

To help students achieve their career goals, AMA College invited GMA News TV Learniversity to hold an exclusive learning conference in their Makati campus last February 14, 2020. With a panel of entrepreneurs, professionals, and Kapuso artists, AMA students enjoyed an inspiring day of career talks and learning exhibits, with topics ranging from entrepreneurship to mental health.

“Learniversity is indeed an enriching experience for AMA students.” explains Darwin Dominguez, the First Vice President of AMA Education System. Furthermore, he shares that, “AMA students get the chance to listen to industry experts for some additional knowledge and nuggets of wisdom, which can guide them as they achieve their [life] goals.”

AMA Learniversity 2020 was hosted by Kapuso artists Pia Arcangel and Betong Sumaya. Among the guest speakers were Lizelle G. Maralag, the President and COO of GMA Marketing and Productions Inc. and GMA Network’s Chief Marketing Officer, and Jules Garcia, the Assistant Social Media Manager of GMA News and Public Affairs. Marketing Director of McDonald’s Philippines Christina Lao, Bukid Fresh Co-Founder and Head of Operations Aaron David, Bayongciaga Owner and Marketing Director Javier Villaruel, Bianca’s Ice Candy Owners Rudy and Rosiell de Leon, Clinical Psychologist Dr. Cely Magpantay, and mental health advocate Kates Ante also took part in the discussions. Kapuso artists Kris Bernal, LJ Reyes, and Mikee Quintos were present as well to share their experiences and answer students’ questions.

“Industry experts are aware of the possibilities that we can encounter as students,” AMA student Shann Derek Usman shares. “We need to carefully listen to them because they know how students can utilize their [own] talents [to] be successful in the future.”
