3 Pinoy-made games and apps that are all about fighting COVID-19

Filipino tech experts have created games and applications aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.

A report by “Unang Balita” featured two mobile applications designed to help medical frontliners and make contact tracing more accessible.

It also featured a new computer game that aims to make the shift to the “new normal” a little easier to understand.

1. “In the Time of Pandemia”

This is a simulation game from game developer Khail Santia wherein a player tries to manage the  crisis in a town gripped by COVID-19.

The game has three goals: minimize deaths, lower incidence rates, and spend public funds wisely. You may achieve this by managing 5 tasks: acquiring test kits, testing, isolation, lockdown, and treatment.

The game can be accessed via web browser.

2. SINAT app

SINAT, which stands for “Smart Intuitive And Non-Contact Assessment Triaging,” is an app created by volunteer developers to help medical frontliners.

Users can turn their smartphones into improvised temperature scanning devices using a special wireless device.

The app aims to make it easier for users to communicate their symptoms to medical experts who will then inform them if further testing should be done.

3. EDDIE app

Eddie is an emergency dispatcher app that allows people to request for medical transfers during emergency situations.

The app was also designed to help frontliners and health workers find free rides on government-authorized vehicles during the lockdown.

Several areas including Metro Manila remain under general community quarantine as COVID-19 cases continue to rise.

As of Wednesday, Aug. 19, the Department of Health reports over 4,000 new infections, bringing the total number of cases to 173,774 with 2,795 deaths and 113,481 recoveries. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
