YouTube watch time up by more than 50% from last year, says Google Philippines

YouTube watch time has increased by more than 50% compared to last year, according to Google Philippines.

During the virtual “Brandcast Delivered” press briefing on Thursday, Google Philippines’ marketing head Gabby Roxas said the growth came from “the diversity of content available” on the video platform.

The number of plantitos and plantitas are really growing as according to Roxas, watch time for gardening videos has increased by four times.

“More than double the videos watched about arts ... and more than triple time spent watching strategy game videos,” he said.

Additionally, there was a more than 90% watch time increase for knowledge and trivia videos.

Fitness content was also popular as time spent watching exercise videos tripled, Roxas added.

With more content to choose from, more pages gained followers, with 1,750 channels having over 100,000 subscribers .

“Interesting thing, you can’t attribute that to a specific genre … once you’re reaching this number of channels with that much of subscribers, you can see diversity of content,” said Roxas. – RC, GMA News
