Woman launches ‘Silog for a Cause’ for frontliners, those in need amid pandemic

A woman has launched a feeding program for frontliners and those in need amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras” Thursday, Anne Mari Macasinag started the “Silog for a Cause” campaign after learning about taxi drivers who had lost their livelihood due to the crisis.

“Hindi ’yun fair, ’yung life, kaya sabi ko meron naman ako mase-spare so siguro pwede ako mag-share,” said Anne, who works as a freelance video editor.

Anne, however, admitted that she didn’t know much about cooking, so she sought the help of a friend who owned a carinderia specializing in silog.

The carinderia business of her friend also struggled to stay afloat amid the pandemic.

With the help of her friend, Anne prepared the meals and distributed them to frontliners and those who are in need. Soon, many people began offering monetary assistance and volunteering to help her deliver the meals, shared Anne.

A donor even donated over Php 30,000 to feed 100 frontliners at a public hospital for five weeks.

With the holiday season approaching, Anne said there were still reasons to feel the Christmas spirit despite the pandemic.

“Wala naman tayong reason to stop believing in Christmas kasi meron at merong mga taong willing na willing tumulong,” she said. “Kahit di mo kaano-ano, nandyan po talaga sila willing to help.” – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
