Students raise funds to help classmates with limited data for online classes

Students from a college block at Philippine Normal University have been raising funds for their classmates who can’t afford internet data for their online classes.

According to Tina Panganiban-Perez’s “24 Oras” report Friday, some students from the college block aren’t able to attend their practice sessions before the start of their online classes this school year because they don’t have internet data and can’t afford it.

“Marami pong mga kaklase namin nagsasabi na, ‘sorry hindi ako makasali, wala kasi akong load. Wala kaming pang-data,’” said block president Kayla Marie Saluria.

To address the problem, the students began a project called “Nuebhie para kay Bhie,” which aims to collect at least Php9 from donors.

“It is a project of our block para sa mga kaklase naming in need kasi nga dahil may pandemic tayo ngayon, tapos medyo tight ang budget ng lahat,” said Kayla.

Among the beneficiaries of the project is RG Arroyo, who is thankful to his classmates even if he hasn’t met them in person.

“Even though hindi pa kami magkakakilala physically but virtually, ginamit nila yung social media platform to help not only themselves but their fellow comrades as well,” he said. – RC, GMA News
