Gal Gadot to play Cleopatra in upcoming film

Gal Gadot is set to play Cleopatra, the historic Queen of Egypt, in an upcoming biopic.

The Istraeli actress is once again teaming up with "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins for the film. Laeta Kalogridis is writing the screenplay.

In her latest Instagram post, Gal proudly announced that she will help "bring the story of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, to the big screen in a way she's never been seen before. To tell her story for the first time through women's eyes, both behind and in front of the camera."

She added that they were especially thrilled to be announcing this on "International Day of the Girl."

"We hope women and girls all around the world, who aspire to tell stories will never give up on their dreams and will make their voices heard, by and for other women," Gal said in her caption.

Cleopatra is known as the last ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom in ancient Egypt.

The historic "Queen of the Nile" was played by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 film of the same name, which won four Oscars including Best Picture. —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
