Video series teaches children how to prepare for calamities

A video series called “Maging Laging Handa” aims to teach children how to prepare for and what to do during calamities.

Produced by Smart Communications, the video series was relaunched to support the Department of Education’s initiative to integrate disaster risk reduction in the education curriculum, said the company in a release.

With Tonipet Gaba as instructor, the video features three puppets, namely Inay Lena, a mother hen; Brownie, a dog; and Kali, a carabao; and all-original Tagalog songs aimed at making the learning journey richer and more exciting.

The company said the video series covers precautionary measures and safety tips for calamities such as typhoons, floods, tsunamis, storm surges, earthquakes, and landslides.

“Educating the young is a necessary step in building a disaster-resilient nation since children are among the most vulnerable when calamities strike,” said Darwin F. Flores, Smart vice president for community partnerships.
