Hilary Duff says 'Lizzie McGuire' reboot not pushing through

Fans have long since been wishing for a "Lizzie McGuire" reboot or even a sequel, but unfortunately, it's time to give up hope.

Actress Hilary Duff broke the news on Instagram, saying that "despite everyone's best efforts, it isn't going to happen."

"I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It's what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her," she wrote.

"I'm very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the starts just didn't align," she added.

In an attempt to comfort her fans, Hilary said, "Hey now, this is what 2020's made of," a reference to her iconic song "What Dreams Are Made Of."

"Lizzie McGuire" was a Disney series that aired from 2001 to 2004. It followed the life of 13-year-old Lizzie as she navigated the world of middle school with her best friends Miranda and Gordo.

In 2003, a movie was produced to serve as the finale of the series, titled "The Lizzie McGuire Movie."

In August last year, it was announced that Hilary was set to reprise her role as Lizzie in a new sequel series premiering in Disney Plus. —JCB, GMA News
